World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its stats increase in value. This is the sum of all of its leveled up perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). The average item level is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can look at the level of an item. It's a sign of the item's damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories on how the calculation of an item's level is carried out. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the item's value. This can result in an item upgrade's ilvl which is calculated and is often very close to Blizzards actual item level.

This isn't the only factor that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may change its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification which are then increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage or special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.

Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat within the range, unless they are an exclusive item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, this must be done per item and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be augmented by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Moreover, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have a success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
