Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Item Level

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level.

The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is an item that is unique or a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items and the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is therefore more valuable in the early game than later ones as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item, up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available at the store or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it is not successful.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an initial success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
