World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. This value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you do. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

The level of an item is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a useful gauge of an item upgrader kit's worth and the amount of damage it's capable of causing. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item's level.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory states that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates how valuable an item's stats actually are. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this isn't the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, as the level of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may increase the stats of an item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher costs.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat in the range, unless they are a unique item or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items as well as the properties generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each item level. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant a further +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item, up to 140.

Additionally some items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The success of an upgrade item is also affected by the luck of that item. Each item has a base success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.

The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the item upgrade Upgrader CORE client config.
