WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boost in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item upgrader kit from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and current Item Level upgrade; telegra.ph, level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via a variety of means, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is true even if the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
