Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all the upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be changed in order to upgrade an item.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done using the level of the item.

On your PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories on how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory says that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates how valuable the stats of an item really are. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually close to Blizzard's actual level of the Item Upgrade (justpin.date).

This isn't the only factor that influences the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may alter its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit score. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.

The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.

Another way to change the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the Best item upgrader's level. However, all items will include at least one stat in the range, unless they are a unique item, or a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. Similar to base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is more useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that deals damage by 5%. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the Best item upgrader, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Each item has an initial success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by 5percent.

The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
