Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

For instance an item with the upgrade template that ends in % will gain 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot for them; the item upgrader must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special type of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can be prefixed or a suffix that alters the name of the equipment to the upgrade (for example "Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear, or by buying them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals per.

The player is able to have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item will be available at the time of the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of how much they'll improve after a future reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be costly and there is a significant risk that the item may become obsolete or even break when it fails; a failure to upgrade can cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also offer the player a bonus if they are they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs buff the power of all nodes within a radius around them as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways. We suggest upgrading them as soon as possible up to 15 levels.

In the endgame, you will often find that the most effective way to upgrade your equipment is to use Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components which can be upgraded to level 15 and provide a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values can enhance a stat by, and the value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use and also during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the many Glyphs as well as also a few rare glyphs that can be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Each level of item requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained from finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or obtained from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields some Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item. Once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player improves an item the original item is replaced by an item upgrade that is new. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This could be a drawback because it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do this. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and totally different bonuses. This is a good option for some items, but it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can waste a lot of resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled multiple times to increase their value, allowing the player to customize their gear. A good example of this is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an advantage when a player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or does not swim as a dolphin). Requirements
