The democratic system in South Korea is prone to populist tendencies. However, it is more stable than what one might expect.

Origins

Development in Korea
The Korean peninsula has been continuously inhabited since Neolithic times. Of the respondents, 41% believed that there was insufficient scientific evidence to support the theory 39% of respondents claimed that it did not align with their religious beliefs; and 17 percent said they did not understand it. This level of disbelief approaches that of the United States, where a similar percentage of people do not believe that humans evolved from less advanced types of life.
In the past, the anti-evolutionist campaign in Korea was primarily focused on teaching students and the introduction of Christ to them. A significant rise in the interest in creation science occurred in the year 1980, following the inauguration of a four-day seminar during the World Evangelization Crusade in Seoul that featured Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Giss of ICR were the main speakers. This event attracted a huge number of professors, church leaders, and scientists.
The event's success resulted in the formation of the Korea Association of Creation Research on January 31 in 1980. The meeting was covered extensively in the national press, including The Korea Times, Chosun Ilbo and The Korea Times.
KACR began publishing a monthly newsletter called CREATION, in which it covered its activities and published articles on scientific evidence for creationism. It also translated several films and slides from ICR, as well as some books on the subject that were already in print outside of Korea. KACR members gave lectures in churches and universities throughout the country.
A KACR success was observed at the KAIST University in Seoul. There, enough students were interested in the idea of creationism that they raised the funds and support to construct an on-campus museum featuring creationist fossil models and other exhibits.
In addition to its activities, KACR has published a bimonthly magazine, CREATION. The magazine covers a variety of topics that pertain to the science of creation. It also hosted a series of lectures by ICR staff. It also has an organization of local branch offices that offer talks and seminars to children and other community groups.

In the late nineteenth century and into the early twentieth century, Korea began to adopt a more Westernized lifestyle. Gungye, a noble from Later Baekje, established a kingdom with Songak as its capital and exerted control over part of the present-day Jeolla and Chungcheong provinces. Later, he moved the capital to Wansanju and became a rival of Goguryeo.
However the rule of his was short-lived. Wang Geon, a powerful local leader who defeated Gungye in 935 and united Goryeo, Baekje, and Silla and later joined Baekje into Goryeo without a fight as his successor. In addition, Wang Geon introduced fundamental reforms and strengthened a central ruling system. This marked the end of the Three Kingdoms Period. From that point on the Korean peninsula was under the control of the Goryeo Dynasty. During the Three Kingdoms Period, Goguryeo Baekje Silla gradually grew into powerful states on the peninsula and in Manchuria.
