Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like damage from PvE and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or impact while they're being used. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. The item also loses any bonuses it has gained, such as crit chance damage to attack, additional effects (such as increased heal over time, or reloading speed). The player is able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. This means that, if a weapon gains an increase in its crit chance, the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage.
