Guide To Item Upgrade: The Intermediate Guide To Item Upgrade
Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, commonly known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment increases the stat linearly.
Players can recycle six items at a time to gain a gauge for the upgraded component of each item. The cost of recycling an item upgrading varies with its rarity and level.
Upgrade components
An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a procedure that can improve the stats of your weapons and armor. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways such as using upgrade components or increasing an item's rarity or mark level. Many items can also be reforged to boost their value.
Upgradeable items can be found all over the game, both in the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. The primary method to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are items that can be slotted into equipment. Most equipment comes with upgrade slots, and most require a certain upgrade level. Certain upgrade items components provide specific bonuses, while others offer general bonuses.
There are many types of upgrade components in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs can only be found in gathering tools. They provide a variety bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing extra crafting material.
To upgrade an item, click it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will appear on the right hand side of the screen. It will display the expected stats following the upgrade. If you do not have enough of either, the Upgrade button will be marked as Blocked.
The upper-right corner shows the number of upgrade components required for an item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the level of the upgrade and its rarity, however it can be reduced by a variety of methods, including purchasing upgrades from a retailer or trading them with other players.
Most weapons can be upgraded using an upgrade to a prefix for example, an insignia, or a rune, and many are upgraded by a suffix upgrade. These upgrades alter the name of the item, adding an adjective, such as 'Radiant' or 'Minor Vigor. There are some exceptions, however. the non-inscribable weapons, such as foci and shields from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any kinds of mods at all.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to communicate visual information. They animate in order to draw the attention of the viewer and spark curiosity. The glyphs' animation mimics body language, which makes them more effective in conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain, thereby increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by a certain range. This is clearly displayed on the item, when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This isn't the actual amount by which glyphs can improve the stat, but rather the maximum value by which it can do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the item you're enchanting it to.
The majority of upgrade components added to items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them except for legendary upgrades and equipment. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to the gear yet, you can transfer the item to another piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.
You can take out the glyph using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed within which it is placed, but you can recover the upgraded item with the glyph and its fragments, so this should not be considered a loss.
When you remove an item after adding a glyph the shards from the glyph will disappear. You can also apply an inscription to your equipment to add an extra benefit. Deferred Damage, for example can be used to store damage and then be dealt out slowly to the wearer instead of all at once. This is beneficial for players who are taking a lot of damage from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens let players change the affixes of their equipment and weapons, and they can be obtained in various ways such as in mistery boxes or as a rare drop from skulled creatures, or even from killing bosses. Each reroll token grants the player a brand new random affix, which is usually superior to the one they had before. Reroll tokens can also be a good way to reroll weapon stats, which can be upgraded for better damage or other perks.
Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the item upgrade menu, however, they are still eligible to receive upgrades. These rerolled items are able to be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to be selected to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its level gauge. This amount is determined by the rarity of the item and its level, therefore items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower-level ones.
In addition to tokens for rerolls players can also make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to reroll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. Rerolls are based on a % chance to determine a weapon's trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be rerolled up to three times.
Rerolls are a good option to upgrade an item, but players should be aware that it could reduce the overall ilvl the weapon based on the number of rerolls needed to raise it to its final ilvl. This effect is most evident on Rings and Diadems because they are the only options to raise the ilvl.
The reroll system has been criticized by players for being expensive and it's more equitable to let players pay for it with money or a food item which would allow players to alter their builds without spending too much time and effort. The developers do not plan to implement paid rerolls at this stage of the game's development. Instead, they're planning to include a race change potion in the future.
Leveling
There are many ways to boost the value of an item upgrade. The first is to increase the upgrade amount which boosts the value of upgrading any stat. The second is to increase the effect of upgrading which increases the damage or heal of a given stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. Once this is done, the new item will keep its iLevel, but will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded item type.
It is important to keep in mind that upgrades are random. Most of the time the best roll will result from glyphs, however there are also chances for higher or more special rolls. Additionally, the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type and should you upgrade a unique or rare item to an extraordinary type, it could get a higher iLevel.
Upgrades can be expensive, especially if you are upgrading equipment from the standard track to legendary. The cost of upgrading a piece of equipment will depend on the base iLevel as well as the amount of upgrade levels. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests to achieve the next upgrade level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item will reach the maximum level on its upgrade track, and thus unlock an additional effect. This will give the item a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level. In general, the upgrade effect is increased by +3.
The iLevel can also change according to the upgrade path and its base level. For example, a weapon that is upgraded from a rare or unique item to a rare or exceptional item is likely to get the Enhanced Defense of the base type of item.
