Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template ending in % will suffer 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level in order for the component to be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix changing the name of the equipment with which it is applied (for example "Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, which lets players create stronger versions with the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they would need to reach the same level using standard methods.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it is likely that the item will be obsolete, or even break, in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, and include any existing attaches. Glyphs can be upgraded in various ways, and we suggest upgrading them to 15 levels as soon as possible.

In the endgame you'll find that the best way to enhance your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade item components that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes faster.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without any restrictions. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. When enough points have been earned, you will be able to claim the upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.

When the player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a new item of the same type. The same armor can be transformed into an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own bonus. This can be a disadvantage because it can make the item more expensive if you do not require it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll the upgrade of their item. The item will be replaced with an entirely new item that has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This is useful for certain items, but it's not something that should be repeated often, as it can use up a lot of resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times to increase their value, allows the player to modify their gear.
