Upgrades can increase the performance of a piece of gear and at times even add additional features. The value of these upgrades is determined by the gear's tiers, their requirements, and how many random augmentations are made available.

For example, the elite shield of racial violence Razortail is commonly upgraded for its lightning absorb function in PvP, or to add additional defenses on missile based builds in PvM. This makes it more tradeable than the non-upgraded version.

Reroll Tokens

You can also find them in crates and chests, or purchase them from the stores for $150 each. Reroll tokens can be used to change an attribute on a piece of equipment that could include increasing its damage or granting it a brand new stat.

Players can roll equipment in three categories: physical power, spell power, and health. Physical power upgrades boost the damage done by weapons and melee attacks, while spell power boosts mage attacks and rings. Health upgrades give players an additional level of health.
