Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade items increases the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the Item Level Upgrade that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other items. Players can purchase them through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool using a button, which displays an item's preview when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item upgrader kit slot, and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an Best item upgrader upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will be less expensive, even if they belong to another set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

First, you must be aware that the crests can only be purchased for equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade item process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
