Upgrades to items can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Item Luck

However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each item level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of the item up to 140.

Moreover some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be found in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have a success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5%.
