Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.

Components

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must be at the very least upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment using the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop or getting them from enemies while upgrading other gear.

The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item upgrader will drop in the next reset. You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools as well as through Faction Crypt raids. Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs, you will have to put them on your gear. Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled until they reach a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires various components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of crafting tables. Each Upgrade Recipe completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned, you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When the player upgrade an item it will be replaced with an item upgrade that is new. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will also have its own set bonus. This could be a disadvantage since the item may increase in price even if you do not need it.
